Svaroopa® Yoga at River Time Yoga

When you enter River Time Yoga, you will find ample, light-filled space for your Svaroopa® yoga practice. Stacks of soft, thick plaid blankets are ready to personalize propping into poses for the reliable release of tension from tight spinal muscles. Leaving after your class, you’ll notice new ease in your body along with abundant calm and clarity in your mind.

Svaroopa® yoga is a profoundly healing and transformative style of hatha yoga. Through precisely aligned poses, you release deep spinal tension. When you dissolve the tension in spinal muscles, you heal common discomforts and conditions as well as soothe your mind. All of the practices of Svaroopa® yoga — poses (asana), breathwork (pranayama), and meditation — are based authentically in the ancient texts of yoga. These texts, which date from some 2000 years ago in India, focus on practices that open you to the Bliss of Your Own Being!

Healing Power of Yoga

Svaroopa® yoga is not about athleticism, in that this yoga style focuses on healing rather than on competition or performance. In fact, Svaroopa® yoga specializes in healing. You can expect to relieve — or even completely eliminate…

  • Back pain
  • Neck and shoulder pain
  • Headaches
  • Sleep issues

Students of Svaroopa®yoga report that they have healed…

  • Sciatica
  • Sacroiliac joint pain
  • Painful knee misalignments
  • Plantar fasciitis (chronic pain in the soles of the feet)

With consistent class attendance and home practice, students typically…

  • Lower blood pressure, pulse rate, and cholesterol
  • Improve or completely resolve digestive issues such as heartburn/gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)

When the poses and breathing practices of Svaroopa® yoga release deeply held tension in your spinal muscles, you move into a natural healing state. Western medical researchers have called this the relaxation response. It is a state of deep rest that restores the healthy balance and function of all of the internal systems of body and mind.

Transformation through Yoga

Beyond healing is transformation, which, says the dictionary, means a change in form, appearance, nature, or character. As yoga opens you to physical healing, it also supports changes in terms of personal growth and overall wellbeing. Old behavior patterns can more easily be replaced by healthier lifestyle choices. You may find that relationships become more harmonious and fulfilling. Once you make the commitment to take time for healing your body and soothing your mind in the sanctuary that yoga provides, you may well find that you are more effective when you return to family and work responsibilities. As your yoga practice opens you to the Bliss of Your Own Being, you can expect your mirror to reflect a naturally radiant YOU!

Svaroopa® Yoga Class Formats

At River Time Yoga, we offer 60-minute classes in the early morning and noon as well as 90-minute afternoon classes. Every Svaroopa® yoga class includes asana (poses) that are specifically designed to release core tension.

The 90-minute classes are based on specific themes. There are 12 Svaroopa® yoga themes, one for each month of the year. Each themed class teaches you about the effect of specific types and sequences of poses on your body and mind. Learn more about Svaroopa® yoga themes.

The early morning 60-minute classes are designed to release spinal tension and prepare you for a productive day. The noon classes provide rest, relaxation, and revitalization for the middle of your workday. Review the class schedule for days/times.
